how to ski

You want to start out by renting your boots, skis, and poles from the local ski shop. It is rer bindings will have a ski brake to prevent the skis from taking off downhill if they release during a fall. You will want to get comfortable getting in and out of your bindings. Practice holding the skis properly by placing your hands through the loops from underneath. This keeps your hands close to the poles and straps.

Before heading down the hill, get used to how the skis feel on your feet. Take a walk with them on, and observe others as the maneuver in them. This will give you an idea of how to control the skis, as it can be awkward for a first timer. Practice by walking up small rises and sliding down them. Make sure you practice in a flat area. One thing that you will learn quick is that whatever way you point the skis is the direction you will go. It is perfectly normal for you to fall several times when you first start out. This will help in the process of learning how to balance.

When falling down, do not tense up. Just relax and fall easily. Hold your poles away from you to avoid falling on them. Get up by placing your poles or hands uphill and pulling your legs under you.

Once you advance in your ability to learn how to ski, try pushing the tips of your skis inward with the backs further apart. Keep your weight balanced evenly and centered over both of your skis.

When starting out you always want to look towards the direction the you want to go. Point your ski poles toward the rear and keep your hands relaxed and out front. Practice pushing your skis apart as they come in together. Do not allow the two skis to touch.

Stay relaxed while on the slopes and make turns with your feet. When you start looking in a direction, you will immediately begin going in that direction. Practice doing turns slowly while pressing the skis upward into the slope. In order to stop you will need to turn uphill.

When you are ready to climb on the ski lift, make sure you watch the other skiers do it first, and let the attendant know that it is your first time. Good luck and happy skiing!
